DINING OUT GETS HEALTHIER WITH UNO'S® NEW FALL MENU
Boston, MA (October 21, 2009) - Uno Chicago Grill®, America's Healthiest Chain Restaurant1 is "Fall of Surprises" with delicious new menu items that offer healthy options.
UNO® Executive Chef Chris Gatto highlights five particularly tasty menu options for those who focus on health and nutrition:
Try starting with UNO's signature dish, pizza, in a healthy new version: an All-Natural, Five-Grain Crust, Harvest Vegetable Flatbread which provides 15 grams of fiber, thanks mostly to its whole wheat, toasted wheat germ, oat bran, sesame seed and ground flax seed crust. Make no mistake; this new addition is just as delicious as our other pizzas.
Pasta lovers can also rejoice! UNO has expanded its relationship with Barilla® Pasta and now offers Barilla Whole Grain Penne as a substitute for any of the traditional pastas on its menu.
Made with 51 percent whole wheat, Barilla Whole Grain Penne is all natural and an excellent source of fiber, delivering three times the fiber of regular pasta. As a result, it is the ideal pasta for anyone who wants to add more fiber and whole grains to their diet, but does not want to sacrifice taste.
"We continually look for ways to offer healthy, delicious choices to our guests," said Chef Gatto. "Barilla products have proven to be a popular choice with diners, and we're delighted to include their whole grain pastas in our selection."
If you're looking for something lighter but with a huge explosion of taste, try the Power Salad with Goji Mix and Ocean Spray® Sweetened Dried Cranberries. This healthy, 420-calorie dish is high in fiber (8 grams) and low in saturated fat (2 grams). It combines a colorful mix of spinach, sliced chicken breast, plum tomatoes, carrots, feta cheese, red grapes, and a 'power mix' of Thompson raisins, soy nuts, almonds, pepitas, Ocean Spray Sweetened Dried cranberries and the exceptionally healthy goji berry. Now that's healthy flavor!
You can also try UNO's Asian Chicken Salad. At just 560 calories, it is low in fat and high in fiber (3g saturated fat, 8g fiber). It features a delicious medley of field greens, carrots, cucumber, tortilla strips, honey lime dressing, grilled chicken, Asian sauce, snow peas, red peppers, carrot curls and cilantro.
If you prefer to bite into something a bit more substantial, try our Roasted Vegetables & Feta Wrap. This whole-wheat and flaxseed tortilla is filled with roasted vegetables, caramelized onions, tomato, feta, lettuce and balsamic vinaigrette. These 435 calories pack a protein punch with 22g and all nine essential amino acids, plus 15g fiber!
The company that was the first to develop deep-dish pizza in 1943 is way deeper than pizza. Uno boasts a number of nutritious firsts, including being the first casual-dining chain to eliminate artificial trans fats in their restaurants. The chain was one of the first to offer a gluten-free menu, which has over 30 items ranging from entrées, salads, soups, drinks and desserts. It was also the first national casual-dining chain to offer a gluten-free pizza. For guest convenience and safety, Uno was among the first to offer nutritional transparency for its menu and clearly identify - via its nutritional kiosks in restaurant lobbies - menu items with ingredients that are linked to the most common food allergies, such as fish/shellfish, soy, tree nuts/peanuts, egg, milk and wheat/gluten. Diners can also preview the menu and nutritional information online via the company's website at www.unos.com.
Based in Boston, Uno Restaurant Holdings Corporation includes 175 company-owned and franchised full-service Uno Chicago Grill units located in 28 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Honduras, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The company also operates a fast casual concept called Uno Dué Go®, a quick serve concept called Uno Express®, and a consumer foods division which supplies airlines, movie theaters, hotels, airports, travel plazas, schools and supermarkets with both frozen and refrigerated private-label foods and branded Uno products.
