UNO CHICAGO GRILL TAKES SECOND PLACE AT 22nd ANNUAL CHOWDERFEST
First
place winner: Houston’s – Boston, MA
(Faneuil Hall)
Second place winner: Uno Chicago Grill - Boston, MA
BOSTON, (July 6, 2003) – Boston’s City Hall
Plaza was host to over 11,000 enthusiastic chowder-samplers
earlier today at Boston Harborfest’s 22nd Annual
Chowderfest. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Boston residents and
visitors sampled and voted for their favorite New England
style clam chowder recipe from top New England area restaurants
that were selected to participate.
The 22nd Annual Chowderfest marked the first year that
restaurants outside the greater Boston area were invited
to compete for the title “Boston’s Best Chowder”.
All of the participating restaurants were highly recommended
by Chowderfest enthusiasts who sent the Boston Harborfest
committee their nominations.
This year’s participants included:
Uno Chicago Grill, Boston
The Farragut House, Boston
Houston’s, Boston
The Cliff House Resort and Spa, Ogunquit, ME
Lobster Pot
Although each restaurant served New England style clam
chowder, each recipe was very different in both flavor
and texture. Several were smooth and creamy while others
were thick and chunky. Although the decision must have
been a very difficult one, it was Houston’s in Faneuil
Hall who was voted “Boston’s Best Chowder” and
who was awarded the 2003 Chowderfest Chowder Bowl.
The day’s entertainment included performances by
the Middlesex County Volunteer Fifes & Drums, His Majesty’s
First Regiment of Foot, the Dixieland Strollers, as well
as entertainment by Fly By Night, which included jugglers
and a mime. A misting tent kept both attendees and participants
cool under the blazing sun and ninety degree temperature.
Chowderfest was one of the over 200 events that took place
during the 22nd Annual Boston Harborfest. “A Grand
Concert to Celebrate Liberty” will conclude Boston
Harborfest 2003 ceremonies at 45 School City, in the Courtyard
at Old City Hall.
